AA ANFIELD ANTHEMS

Liverpool Is Part of Me

I stood in front of a mural of this club a while back, and it hit me differently than it usually does. Not "I love this team." Something closer to: this isn't separate from me anymore. It's part of the actual structure of who I am.

That's a strange thing to say about a football club. I know that. But I think anyone who's followed something this long, this closely, eventually stops being able to draw a clean line between "the thing I support" and "who I am." At some point the two just merge.

When did it stop being a hobby

I couldn't actually point to the exact moment. It wasn't one match, one signing, one trophy. It was more like erosion in reverse — instead of wearing something down, years of Saturdays and European nights and pre-season hope and post-season heartbreak built something up. Slowly enough that I didn't notice it happening until I was already standing on the other side of it, part of a community, part of an identity, part of something that shows up in how I talk, what I wear, how I structure a Saturday.

What that actually means

It means this channel isn't really content to me, even though I know that's the language of what we're doing here. It's closer to just... talking about a part of myself out loud, and finding out there are thousands of people who feel the exact same pull toward the exact same thing. That's not nothing. That's actually kind of remarkable when you sit with it.

So — this club is part of me. Not metaphorically. Actually, structurally, part of how I'd describe myself if you asked. I don't think that's unusual for people who follow football the way we do. I just don't say it out loud very often.
